I already went gluten-free — can I still test?

Not accurately. Being gluten-free for more than a few weeks can make the blood test falsely negative. A gluten challenge or a different pathway is needed first — mention this so the physician can advise you.

What happens if the test is positive?

A positive result is explained through the portal and referred to gastroenterology for a confirming biopsy. Do not start a gluten-free diet before that biopsy, or it can be harder to confirm the diagnosis.

Does a negative test rule out celiac disease?

Not if you were already gluten-free when tested, and rarely, a person with known IgA deficiency needs a different test. Tell the physician about either situation.
