Does doxy-PEP prevent HIV or pregnancy?

No. Doxy-PEP only targets bacterial STIs — chlamydia, syphilis, and (to a lesser extent) gonorrhea. It does not prevent HIV or pregnancy, so continue using condoms and consider HIV PrEP if you're at ongoing risk.

Who benefits most from doxy-PEP?

The strongest evidence is in men who have sex with men and transgender women who have had a bacterial STI in the past 12 months. Others at high ongoing STI risk may still be a reasonable fit through shared decision-making.

How often can I use it?

Up to 10 doses a month, taking one 200 mg dose as soon as possible and within 72 hours after condomless sex. Refills require a quarterly STI screen.
