An order for a TB blood test (interferon-gamma release assay, IGRA — QuantiFERON-TB Gold or T-SPOT) for adults who need latent TB screening: a job or school requirement, a known exposure, or a risk factor such as birth in or travel to a high-incidence country. This is a test order, not a diagnosis or treatment visit; a positive result is followed by a chest X-ray and, if needed, treatment, arranged after the result.

What if I have symptoms right now?

A cough lasting more than 3 weeks, blood in the sputum, unexplained weight loss, night sweats, or fever can mean active TB, which needs an in-person evaluation and a chest X-ray rather than a screening blood draw alone.

I already tested positive before — do I need to retest?

Usually not. Bring your prior positive result and any treatment history to your evaluation; a repeat screening test is not usually needed.
